Special Requirements

Passengers with special needs, pregnant women, or those requiring additional assistance are supported by Air Montenegro, provided prior arrangements are made.

Acceptance for transport of pregnant women or other passengers requiring special assistance is subject to prior arrangements with us. Passengers with any form of disability who have notified us of special requirements at the time of ticket issuance, and whose requests we have accepted, will not be subsequently denied transport due to their disability or special requirements.

General

This procedure applies to the transport of children traveling without an adult escort (UM), aged 5 to 12 years completed, at the request of parents or guardians, and to unaccompanied children older than 12 years, but not older than 16 years.

Transport of unaccompanied minors is possible only on flights where Air Montenegro is the operating carrier* and does not apply to code-share** flights operated by another company, except in cases of transport of children belonging to the "special category of passengers".

Obligations of parents/guardians whose child is traveling as an unaccompanied minor

  1. If they wish to purchase a ticket for an unaccompanied minor, when making a reservation, parents/guardians are obliged to notify our officers by sending an inquiry to email: [email protected]. It is necessary to state the child's name, surname, and date of birth, as well as the date and flight number. The inquiry must be sent at least 48h before the flight.
  2. An unaccompanied minor will be able to fly only after transport has been approved by Air Montenegro, as well as other airlines participating in the transport, if any.
  3. All documents necessary for the unaccompanied minor's travel (ticket, passport, visa, certified consent for independent border crossing) must be provided by the parents/guardians.
  4. Children are accepted for the flight based on a statement that parents/guardians are obliged to fill out and sign. The statement, i.e., "UM form," is obtained and filled out at the airport during check-in. To ensure all formalities are completed on time, please arrive at the airport earlier and register the child for the flight two hours before scheduled departure.
    You can see the data required for filling out the form by downloading the "UM form" here .
  5. The parent/guardian hands the child over to the authorized officer at the airport and is obliged to remain at the airport until the plane carrying the child takes off. Please note that the child must be handed over and accepted only by those persons listed in the unaccompanied minor statement, i.e., the UM form.
    For departures from Frankfurt and Zurich airports, a temporary change to this procedure is in effect. You will receive information at our representative office counter when filling out the UM form.

Service for children older than 12 years, but not more than 16 years is provided:

  • Only if help is really needed,
  • Only if the parent/guardian requests it,
  • For passengers with reduced mobility.

For independent travel of minor children (up to 18th birthday), it is necessary to have the consent of both parents, certified by a notary or competent institution. For more information, visit the website of the competent institution in the country of departure. The airline will not bear responsibility if the documentation is incomplete.

Transport of children under 5 years

Air Montenegro accepts children under 5 years (older than 2 years) for transport, but strictly accompanied by an older person. Escorts can be parents/guardians, sisters and brothers older than 16 years, or any other person older than 18 years, with certified consent.

If the stated conditions are not met, acceptance of the child for transport is possible only accompanied by an Air Montenegro flight attendant as a child escort, whereby the parent/guardian is obliged to buy a ticket for the official escort, at the applicable tariff for the part of the journey where the escort is present. For this service, contact us at email: [email protected].

* Operating carrier - flight operated independently by Air Montenegro.
** Code-share flight / Air Montenegro marketing carrier - flight operated by another company, where Air Montenegro leases a certain number of seats.

Air Montenegro accepts a child accompanied by one parent/guardian for the flight with the consent of the other parent. Also, Air Montenegro accepts a child accompanied by persons who are neither parents nor guardians (older than 18 years), but with consent that both parents/guardians are obliged to sign. Escorts can also be sisters and brothers older than 16 years with certified consent.

The consent form is not legally prescribed, but it must be certified by a notary or a competent authority (in Montenegro: Basic Court). As regulations vary from country to country and depend on citizenship, passengers are obliged to check travel conditions with the consular-diplomatic representation of the country they are traveling to.

Please note that all the above information serves only as guidance, and passengers are obliged to inform themselves in detail with the competent authorities.

For safety and comfort on Air Montenegro flights, it is necessary for us to be aware of the type of assistance required by the passenger before purchasing a ticket.

Official Certificate of Passenger Health Status - MEDIF Form is necessary in case of:

  • transport of a patient, i.e., a passenger who has declared themselves as such, regardless of whether they are sent for treatment by the Health Insurance Fund or traveling privately;
  • when the passenger suffers from a disease considered contagious or transmissible;
  • as a consequence of a disease, has unusual behavior or physical condition, which may affect the comfort or disturbance of passengers during the flight, may be considered a potential safety hazard, or the required procedure with the passenger may jeopardize traffic regularity;
  • requires medical attention and/or special equipment during travel or their condition may worsen during the flight.

This certificate must be filled out by the doctor treating the patient or familiar with their health condition, legibly, with all requested data, certified and signed by the doctor, no later than 48 hours before the planned trip.

Incomplete forms will not be considered.

The completed form needs to be sent to email [email protected], so that the company doctor, based on assessment, can give consent or deny air transport.

Along with the filled MEDIF form, it is necessary to submit a signed and scanned "Indemnity Form"

If the passenger needs oxygen during the flight, it is necessary to wait for confirmation from the company that it can be provided on the specific flight. The travel ticket can be issued only after obtaining all necessary approvals.

The stated procedure does not apply to passengers whose only deficiency is deafness or blindness.

Data stated in the MEDIF form is strictly confidential and its secrecy is guaranteed.

You can download the MEDIF form here .

*Note: Oxygen on the flight must exclusively be provided by the company.

Exceptions

The company may refuse transport to passengers suffering from the following diseases, or in the following health condition:

  • decompensated heart disease or recent myocardial infarction (6 weeks old),

AIR MONTENEGRO IS UNABLE TO PROVIDE TRANSPORT FOR PASSENGERS REQUIRING A STRETCHER.

Persons with disabilities, or passengers in such a health condition that they require special attention or assistance when boarding or disembarking from the plane, during the flight, or during check-in, are obliged to emphasize which category of passengers they belong to when purchasing a ticket, so that appropriate services can be engaged in accordance with the stated needs.

Categories

According to the degree of assistance required, there are the following categories of passengers:

  • WCHR - passengers who need help getting to or leaving the plane, but who can climb up or down stairs independently, as well as move around the passenger cabin.
  • WCHS - passengers who need a wheelchair to/from the plane and must be carried up/down stairs, but can move independently around the passenger cabin.
  • WCHC - passengers who need a wheelchair from/to the plane and need help entering or exiting the plane, as well as moving around the passenger cabin.
  • BLND - blind passengers - it is necessary to indicate when booking the ticket whether there is accompaniment by a guide dog for blind persons.
  • DEAF - deaf passengers - it is necessary to indicate when booking the ticket whether there is accompaniment by a dog.

When accepting passengers from the listed categories for transport, escorts are required as follows:

  • For WCHR and WCHS category passengers, an escort is generally not required, unless a doctor decides otherwise, while passengers belonging to the WCHC category must have an escort qualified to accompany such a passenger for the entire journey.

NOTE: Air Montenegro is unable to provide transport for passengers requiring a stretcher.

Please note that there is a limit on the number of passengers with disabilities who can be on one flight, so it is necessary for the passenger to note what kind of assistance is needed when making a reservation for an even more comfortable journey.

PASSENGERS WITH THEIR OWN WHEELCHAIRS

Wheelchairs are transported as checked baggage, free of charge, if the passenger moves using the aid. Since there are different types of wheelchairs: standard - manual, motorized - dry battery or accumulator, services at reception will check if batteries are disconnected, poles isolated, and batteries firmly attached to the wheelchair.

If wheelchairs are powered by wet or lithium batteries, the passenger is obliged to submit the manufacturer's specification for them to email [email protected] for inspection to determine if the specified wheelchair type can be accepted on the flight.

BATTERY-POWERED MOBILITY AIDS

When accepting battery-powered mobility aids for transport, the following conditions must be met:

  • the battery is of a permitted type;
  • battery poles are protected and electrical circuits are isolated;
  • batteries are loaded in a way that prevents movement or damage to other cargo;
  • if applicable, batteries are removed, protected, and transported according to specifications for this battery type;
  • the captain is informed about the location of the mobility aid and/or batteries.

Expectant mothers up to the 20th week of pregnancy, in good health and with an uncomplicated pregnancy, may travel on Air Montenegro flights without a medical certificate. If the pregnancy has entered the 20th week, travel on our flights will be permitted only with a medical certificate issued no more than 7 days prior to the commencement of travel. The certificate must confirm:

  • that birth is not expected within 4 weeks of the start of travel, and that there are no medical impediments to travel,
  • that there is no uncertainty regarding the progress of the pregnancy or the date of delivery, and/or
  • that no complications are expected during delivery.

This certificate remains with the reservation department.

For uncomplicated pregnancies, air travel is possible up to the 36th week of pregnancy for single pregnancies, or up to the 32nd week for multiple pregnancies.

Air travel is not recommended for pregnant women 7 days after delivery.

We trust you understand that these rules are in place for the health of both the expectant mother and the baby.

NEWBORN BABIES

Newborn babies may be carried on our flights only seven days after birth, unless born prematurely. For the travel of prematurely born babies, advance notification and a medical certificate are required.

Transport of pets in the passenger cabin (PETC)

Only small pets (but not in the care of an unaccompanied minor) can be transported in the passenger cabin: dogs and cats. For small rodents (exclusively rabbit and guinea pig), as well as for small domesticated birds (exclusively canary and small parrot), prior written approval for transport is required by sending an inquiry to email address: [email protected], at least 48h before the flight. Reptiles and other animals cannot be accepted on Air Montenegro flights. Transport of pets in the cabin is possible only on flights where Air Montenegro is the operating carrier* and does not apply to code-share** flights operated by another company.

Note: The captain of the aircraft has the discretionary right to make a final decision on accepting or rejecting the transport of a pet on the flight, even right before the flight.

For pet transport by plane, an appropriate ventilated carrier made of solid material (plastic, fiberglass, wood, metal, etc.) must be provided; exceptionally, a transport bag with a solid, waterproof bottom is accepted, or a cage with a fabric cover for small birds. The maximum weight of the carrier and pet is 8 kg, and the size must not exceed hand luggage dimensions, i.e., 55x40x20 cm. Several animals of the same species may be placed in one carrier as long as their total weight, together with the carrier, does not exceed the maximum allowed. The carrier must be the only hand luggage and must be placed under the seat in front of the passenger. At security control, the pet is taken out of the carrier and passes the X-ray machine together with the owner, while the carrier passes the check with other luggage.

Air Montenegro passengers can purchase the PETC service (pet traveling in the passenger cabin) online, EXCLUSIVELY for dogs and cats, during or after ticket purchase, according to the tariffs in the table.

Transport of pets in the baggage hold (AVIH)

An animal that due to its weight/size cannot be transported in the passenger cabin will be transported in the aircraft hold. It is important to emphasize that the carrier must be large enough for the animal(s) to stand up, turn around, and lie down naturally. Packaging made of fiberglass or hard plastic, which can be locked and cannot be damaged by teeth or claws, is acceptable. A maximum of three (3) young animals from the same litter can be placed in the same carrier. Two (2) adult animals, each weighing less than 14 kg, can be placed in the same carrier if they live together, provided that the total weight of the animals and carrier MUST NOT exceed 32 kg.

Maximum dimensions of the carrier are length 120 cm, width 101 cm, and height 71 cm, and the maximum allowed weight including the animal(s) is 32 kg.

To confirm pet transport in the hold, send an inquiry to email address: [email protected], at least 48h before the flight.

Pet transport in the hold is possible only on flights where Air Montenegro is the operating carrier* and does not apply to code-share** flights operated by another company.

Animal transport in the hold is not part of free baggage allowance but is charged a fixed amount, per direction, according to the tariffs in the table:

Transport of pets - required documents

If the passenger plans to travel with their pet, dog, cat, and other pets (as stated above), they need to provide all documents required by the law of the country they are traveling to. Necessary information can be obtained at the nearest diplomatic-consular representation of each country individually.

If the pet is denied entry into the country after landing, the passenger is obliged to bear the costs of the return flight for themselves and the pet and, if necessary, accommodation costs in the transit zone until the next flight.

One of the basic criteria for the travel of dogs, cats, rabbits, and other pets (as stated above), which is common to all countries, is that they are healthy and fit for travel, which is confirmed by a veterinarian's signature in the animal's passport, that they are regularly vaccinated against rabies, and that they have a microchip or tattoo number implanted. Pets need to be treated for intestinal parasites and ticks 24 to 48 hours before traveling by plane.

The pet passport, i.e., the booklet issued and certified by an authorized veterinary institution, states:

  • date of birth/age, breed, sex, and coat color;
  • microchip number/tattoo number, date of marking, and location on the animal;
  • date of vaccination against rabies;
  • name of vaccine manufacturer, vaccine name, and serial number;
  • date when the animal needs to receive a booster dose.

For transporting dogs by plane, it is recommended not to feed the dog at least 6 hours before the flight, and not to give water 2 hours before takeoff.

Guide Dogs

Blind, visually impaired, and hearing-impaired passengers may travel accompanied by a guide dog which, tied with a guide dog harness and wearing a muzzle, sits at its owner's feet. Transport of guide dogs is free on Air Montenegro lines. It is necessary to make an announcement when booking/purchasing the ticket along with submitting a certificate/confirmation that the dog has passed standard training. Send the request to email address: [email protected], at least 48h before the flight.
